Frequently Asked Questions
-
Mental performance training focuses on learning and implementing psychological skills for enhancing performance. While these psychological skills can be used in everyday life to enhance overall well-being too, the focus is within your performance domain. Counseling services focus on mental health and general life challenges and are provided by licensed mental health professionals. It’s not unusual for athletes and performers to utilize both a mental performance consultant and counselor, as well as other professionals. We’re always happy to talk more with you about this difference and the goal of our services.

The amount of sessions you need to accomplish your goals will vary. Every athlete and performer comes to mental performance training with their own set of strengths, experiences, and needs. However, after your intake, we will provide an overview of the approach we plan to take and discuss the amount of sessions we think we can accomplish your goals in. We are deliberate about assessing progress and getting feedback throughout our work to assist wih this.
-
We love when clients ask these types of questions because your involvement and committment in the mental performance training process is crucial. What you do outside of our sessions is just as important as what we do together in sessions. We encourage clients to stay open, get out of their comfort zones, and let us know if new challenges or barriers arise.
-
We believe parents/guardians can play an important role in supporting youth athletes and performers in their development and application of performance psychology skills. While all sessions will be conducted with only the athlete/performer, we offer parents and guardians check-ins every three sessions. These check-ins can simply be an emailed summary of session content, or can be phone/video calls of up to 30 minutes so that we can answer more detailed questions and discuss more about how you can support your athlete/performer.
-
All clients get access to their own client account upon beginning our work together. This account gives you access to pay for all sessions electronically. After sessions, you will receive an electronic invoice via email for your records, and will pay via your client portal. Invoices are sent after sessions are completed, meaning sessions are paid for one at a time. We do not offer packages or programs.
-
We don’t offer session packages or require you to lock in to a certain number of sessions for a few reasons. The first is that every client has different strengths, goals, and needs. This means the number of sessions everyone needs or even wants will be different. We often work short-term with clients that have very specific concerns they need support with, as well as long-term with clients that use sport psychology like they use their nutritionists or PTs. We want you to have the flexibility to adjust. Secondly, we know that the client-consultant relationship is one of the most important factors in successful mental performance work. We want you to feel comfortable getting started with us and know we’re confident in our services.
